December 4, 2002 --- Rockville, Maryland. The ICA has received official notice from the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (a division of the National Institutes of Health) that an RFA (Request for Applications) for basic science research on IC has been announced.
This RFA, which is a direct result of the ICA's intensive 2002 advocacy efforts/campaign (pick one), will distribute $5 million towards IC basic science research. The NIDDK intends to commit approximately $5 million in fiscal year 2003 to fund approximately 20 to 25 new grants in response to this RFA.
Applications are encouraged and will be accepted from the entire international research community, both those in the United States as well as worldwide. Although individual applications are the major focus of this request, collaboration between U.S. and non-U.S. investigators is also encouraged.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR APPLICANTS:
Letter of Intent Receipt Date: January 21, 2003
Application Receipt Date: February 21, 2003
NIH funding is crucial to the progress of IC research. Many IC researchers who obtain initial IC research funding through the ICA's Pilot Research Program and/or the Fishbein Family IC Research Foundation, have gone onto receive larger, more comprehensive NIH grants to further explore vital areas of IC research.

How does this relate to the NIH/NIDDK allocation of $3.2 million for Fiscal 2003 for IC (and an equal amount for CPPS)? Has the amount for IC been increased, but not the CPPS amount??

This money comes as a result of the efforts of the ICA to push forward basic research (mainly genetics) in IC (AFAIK from their website). Both exploratory research (without any preliminary results) and grants based on some preliminary results will be given.webmaster wrote:How does this relate to the NIH/NIDDK allocation of $3.2 million for Fiscal 2003 for IC (and an equal amount for CPPS)?
Correct. Do you see any organization lobbying for CPPS basic research? I don't. As far as I know, there will be even a third RFA for IC basic research in the middle of 2003.Has the amount for IC been increased, but not the CPPS amount??

:x This makes me quite angry! The women are miles ahead of us in terms of organization and co-operation. Let's just fervently hope that they come up with something to help us men.
