Female perspective on Wise Clinic Santa Rosa

Post by Sherradin »

Hi I am back from the Wise Clinic in Santa Rosa where I met Richard and a group of ten men I think and four women.

From my perspective as one of the four females and I cannot speak for the other women, it was a great experience. I finally can link my symptoms not so much with food, as I had obsessively followed with an incredibly strict diet for the last three years, but to the contracted muscles in the pelvic floor and activities that strain the pelvic floor.

Tim pressed on my abdominal trigger points and recreated pain not only in my pelvis but down my left leg and into my foot of all places. When my poor nervous system was at its worst my feet had burnt as well as my teeth. It was as if the constant pain in my pelvis had sensitised my whole nervous system and it went haywire. This proved to me the validity of the whole trigger point saga.

Most importantly I know now the pain clinic I attended that said I will always be on pain medication (Lyrica and Endep) is wrong. At the end of five days I had no symptoms. If I can achieve that in the artificial world of the Wise Clinic I can achieve it again. More importantly I have a routine that I now have brought home with me that gives me relief without the drugs. So Dr Wise's advise was to come off the drugs with the help of your doctor. So as I have flared up from three days tearing around San Fran like a lunatic buying up 48kg of shopping to last the next two years I know I will get it under control and as I do I will see my specialist and suggest they visit Dr Wise so people here in Australia don't go down all the blind alleys I went down and suffer needlessly.

I don't think that men and women are all that different in this respect if their pain involves over contacted pelvic muscles..whether caused by child birth, UTIs ,back surgery, gallbladder removal or over exercise of the abdominals - I did all of these and had a similar trigger point map to many of their 'athletic' male types. It is a culmination of a series of insults to the pelvic floor. So while I know one or two of the women felt that it was all about the men for me it didn't make a whole lot of difference despite the anatomical differences for PT the issues of urgency, burning, post bowl movement pain were all the same and there were equally as many men who seemed to have anxiety as the women.

Anyway I am very happy I took a leap of faith and flew the 14 hours and flew to the US to do the course. I had already done two years of meditation and many of the stretches so for me it was the PT where I was described as 'loaded' by Dr Wise that may be the key to getting me further down the track to a more normal pelvis now I can treat myself. Probably one difference is the wand. I don't think that for women using the wand vaginally is as invasive as it must be for the men. But then we have to get something easier somewhere don't we!
CPP since 2005. Prior to CPP always overly fit and active. I am female. Had two natural births: singleton 1998 and twins 2000. 2002 emergency back surgery - L5S1 herniation. Then recurring UTIs. Usual antibiotic overload. Then constant debilitating burning bladder and reaction to many foods. Australian Pain Clinic 2007. Turning point was Dec 2009 Attended Wise Clinic in Santa Rosa USA.
Was helped by strict diet but now eating normally after years of restricted diet - wonderful. Helped by: stretching, relaxation, yoga, trigger point, warm baths. Worsened by: stress, sitting, abdominal or glute exercises and salicylates
Medication: Now off all pain clinic meds no more Endone or Elavil only Lyrica 50 mg as Dec 2010 just reherniated L5S1disc and had discectomy. Its taken years but I feel I am over it.

Thank you for posting this report, Sheridan! I'm glad that the clinic went so well for you, and that you were able to find reassurance through the treatment you received. I've often heard that one TP treatment from Tim is enough to turn peoples' minds around.

For quite a while, the Wise-Anderson Protocol clinic and A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS were devoted to men, so the female groups will no doubt be smaller. That will change as the book refines its feminine perspective with each version, and as the word gets around that their method is just as valid for women. Hopefully, the ladies you mentioned didn't allow their feelings to tarnish the value of the experience.

Keep us posted on how you're doing. You still have a long road ahead, as I'm sure Doctor Wise told you, but the boards are always here to offer support.

Thanks Webslave and Jay I will post in a few months when I have been plugging away at the routine and let you know. Hi to Richard - I hope your getting some new relief with his one annoying spot.

I am still trying to take probiotics which seem to burn my bladder I am going to give them away for the next three months and if things settle try again with them then. My GP wanted me to take them as I have had so many antibiotics. Some people say that the dose of a probiotics can cause an allergy response in some people maybe thats whats happening but I seem to be more reactive to food when I take them. One day someone will explain it.

Hi Sheridan :-D

Long flight back (with delays) - took it out of me and the jet-lag at this end - plus my two boys - has left me knackered  - probably only averaged 3-4 hours sleep a night since I got back - though last night had 6 hours which helped. I find that lack of sleep has the biggest negative impact on my pain level.

I've been making great progress with the wand - and I'm now between 30 and 40 on the scale treating those high up bad spots, compared to 15 to 20 at the clinic. The rush and noise of real life again (after the quiet and focus of the clinic) has certainly brought back some of the stinging perineum pain, but it's still at least 50% better and my understanding of the cause is now in a different place - for example, some really nasty stinging pain in the left of my perineum disappeared after treating my left adductor - says it all really. Managing to do the stretching twice a day but not finding the required time for the relaxation - but there has been some pretty exceptional circumstances with work which, along with family life, really has been it hard to find the time.

Really looking forward and optimistic for next year.
Not medical advice: Read my progress to date : Read about my W-A clinic visit

Age: 54 CPPS: 20 Yrs Recovery Status: 95% Symptoms: Pain around perineum Makes Worse: Tension, sitting Makes Better: Stretching, triggerpoint therapy, relaxation

Love the fact that despite all that you are still 50% better that is great.

I am a believer but am still struggling with what I eat. Little sweet or fruit makes my bladder irritated. But its probably a combination of things to get under control. Work and the kids are also stressful here too. Poor husbands worn out from me being away with the three of them then I went back to work when I got back. We are off together for the weekend this weekend so that may help things.

Using the wand only once a week like I was told and doing 1 session a day of relaxation and as much stretching as I can. Getting better with the soft ball on lower abs as per the Clare Davies book and have felt referred pain to back and bladder. But I need to get better at it. Try do get some relaxation in as I am finding I have no symptoms sometimes when I still my mind even if I fall asleep.

Have set myself a list of things to do for 2010 including stretching skin rolling meditation and daily exercise but also trying to not push myself too hard. Its a balance the A type against the right amount of PT.

Good luck I will follow the board
