40 bathroom trips a day?

Post by webslave »

Anecdotally, FitzGerald said, some women get 100 percent relief from a particular type of physical therapy that works to release the shortened, tense muscles supporting the bladder. Results of a study she led to examine the technique will be out late this year.

"If that pans out, that may be the most promising treatment so far," FitzGerald said.

The key is finding the right physical therapist, FitzGerald said. The therapist should have experience in pelvic muscle release work, rather than pelvic muscle strengthening. Strengthening exercises, or Kegels, are commonly used to treat incontinence, but will actually make the pain worse for someone with painful bladder syndrome.

Yes, Marypat FitzGerald is a member of Rodney Anderson's research network that is testing out the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol vs. therapeutic massage. I'm eager to see the results, which should be out later this year.
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.

Now that the NIH PT trial is finished, it will be very interesting to see the results and how they are spun by the different factions.

Does anyone know when the results will be out, and which journal they'll be in?
