Pelvic Floor Botox in/near Chicago/Midwest

Post by guy97 »

Hey everyone,

I'm at a point at which I'm starting to seriously considering trying a Botox injection. Given that my trouble-spot has been identified as knotted and painful, and resisted a lot of physical therapy, I want to have a go at chemically making it relax. Dr. Dugan and I agree that this might be worth shot, but the first person she suggested I try (or rather, said person's assistant) told me when I called yesterday they don't do Botox injections for pelvic pain. I'm not sure how well he actually speaks for the doctor, but in any case, given that it's a potentially scary procedure, I want to make sure I'm not half-assing (heh) the doctor hunt.

Since this has been my most valuable resource for information, and since I saw someone else's question about a nearby doctor for that procedure had been answered, is there anyone reputable in Chicago, Illinois, or heck, even the entire Midwest, who is known to be able to perform this procedure safely? I'd be willing to make a fair trip to have a shot (again, heh) at it.

Thanks for any help!!

I'd reach out to Anthony Schaeffer at Northwestern. He's a professor, but might know someone.

Well, if your specialist Dr. D. has sent you to a place that doesn't perform the process that is already a bad sign. You may as well try the Wise Clinic and give that a shot for a year or so.

I think Dr. Wise has used Botox trigger point injections after Sawyer or other pt has located stubborn trigger points. You may want to run the idea past him.

This also assumes you are not doing aggressive strengthening /stretching of core, glutes, hip abductors (piriformis, obturators) abductors etc... as part of pt... some pelvic pts have it half right but can't help adding this standard pt fare as part of therapy.

It took me over 18 months of relaxation (dumping all exercise) to see any significant benefit at all. This was with no therapy/ wise program . Have you been suffering a year or abouts? Where is the "knot" located?

stretching and core exercises

I read with interest your exclusion of core exercising and overexercising. I believe there is validity to your point of view.

Be well,

All of my exercise is cardiovascular, and that has only started in the last two weeks because I had gained 15 lbs since first getting this. (I've lost 10 of them already. A simple plebeian diet and daily cardio do wonders. If only all things were so easy to fix!)

I'm working through the director of the pelvic pain center, who can probably find me someone. But yeah, my options are pretty much down to that and the clinic.

The knot is in my left anterior levator ani. I've been examined multiple times: right side is fine, left is tight and agonizing to the touch. I think my case is relatively simple... it's finding the right resolution that's such a pain.
