IZMIR, TURKEY (UroToday.com) - Chronic prostatitis has been used to describe many pelvic pain syndromes. Current research suggests the prostate is not inflamed in these patients. Transperineal Doppler ultrasound in patients with chronic pelvic pain suggests venous congestion in patients with pelvic pain. 3D-MRI venography can non-invasively evaluate the pelvic venous system. Patients with pelvic pain have a much more congested venous pattern than asymptomatic men. 82% of men with pelvic pain have intrapelvic venous congestion compared to 12% in asymptomatic men.
