CPP in women, still a challenge

Post by webslave »

Chronic Pelvic Pain in women, long thought to be a product of endometriosis and other female-only disorders, is starting to look a lot more like the male version. See this report : http://www.urotoday.com/images/british/bju2_2008_11.pdf

One of the paragraphs:
PHYSICAL THERAPY

Hypertonicity of the pelvic floor is a significant component of pelvic pain and sexual pain disorders in women [28]. Pelvic floor training is effective in the treatment of CPP. Physical therapy techniques also include hot or cold applications or manipulations, stretching exercises, ultrasound therapy, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, resulting in significant relief of pain and improvement in quality of life [29]. However, few studies are available and further research validating physical therapy intervention is necessary.
