In the following news report, a study is discussed in which a link is made between childhood stress and inflammation chemicals in their blood as adults.

This is relevant to our condition because it suggests how a lifetime of stress may influence how we respond to physical trauma and other irritations of the body, namely, with an increased inflammation response.
If you haven't started reducing stress in your life, in a healthy way, now may be the time to start.

Childhood stress linked to inflammation in adults
This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.
Re: Childhood stress linked to inflammation in adults
I found this article fascinating. Being a very highly-strung, worry-wart, catastrophic thinking kind of man and having a horrible childhood where I suffered fifteen years or so of physical and emotional abuse, I have always wondered what caused what. It's like the proverbial chicken or the egg question. I'm thinking more and more that I probably was genetically predisposed to CPPS, but my abuse was what really did a number on me physically, emotionally and spiritually and through the passage of time the stress inside me from so much unresolved anger, resentment and conflict, along with chronic sex/masturbatory indulgences since I was a little kid, is what finally brought me to my knees.
Although I think anybody can do something about their stress to some degree, I wonder how many people who grew up in a similar situation as mine and with the same types of personality traits have a level of stress inside of them that is so deep and profound, it's almost at a cellular level. I had a therapist once, who told me that even when I'm outwardly calm, inside my engine is always idling waaaaaaaaaay too fast. It never slows down. It's like there is always some presence there keeping the engine revving.
I ask God sometimes why, if I'm a decent guy, a working stiff, a good friend, a pretty decent human being all around, I have had to deal with so much crap in my life.
I'm kind of just thinking out loud.

Read Dr. Sarno's books (do a search here) on repressed rage and back and pelvis pain. A large majority of men meet my profile at the bottom, with many replicating the sitting potion with a pelvis-strenuous sport like tennis,soccer,hockey and chronic additonal stress on the pelvic floor from very long sessions with internet porn. (usually sitting... bad) OCD is not unusual also.strobers wrote:predisposed to CPPS, but my abuse was what really did a number on me physically, emotionally and spiritually and through the passage of time the stress inside me from so much unresolved anger, resentment and conflict, along with chronic sex/masturbatory indulgences since I was a little kid, is what finally brought me to my knees.
