Re: Adrenocortical Hormone Abnormalities in Men with CP/CPPS

The links I posted about refer to TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) has been approved by the FDA to treat depression. There is some evidence of TMS benefit to the HPA axis. Thanks for posting that, Rufus. We are awaiting protocol approval for a TREATMENT study along those line. The study shou...

Re: Genetic links to CPPS?

Dr Dimitrakov has conducted research into a genetic basis for IC and CPPS. Yes, we do have an ongoing research study looking at the genetic basis of chronic pelvic pain syndrome (both in men and women). Large families are very helpful and are also particularly informative in studies such as ours. H...

Re: High Blood Pressure Related to Pelvic Pain?

We noted an association between high blood pressure and CPPS in our February 2008 paper on adrenocortical dysfunction and CPPS symptoms. The same association was reported by Pontari et al in the NIH CPCRN cohort (Pontari et al, A case-control study of risk factors in men with chronic pelvic pain syn...

Re: Arm Pit Pain/Achiness?

Just another weird symptom question. Has anyone else here experienced a swollen/burning/ache in their armpits? This is one of the questions where you DEFINITELY need to see an internist or a rheumatologist. A good medical student or a resident should be able to come up with at least 23 common cause...

Re: Shock Wave Therapy May Ease CPPS

Latte,

The general design of the study was similar (intervention vs. sham-control), hence my question.

The specific intervention was quite different and I am skeptical about the efficacy given the energy parameteres used and their effect on neuromodulation, if any

Re: Adrenocortical Hormone Abnormalities in Men with CP/CPPS

I think this study may hint at an interesting parallel in people who have CFS/FM (both of which are often comorbid with CPPS): JOURNAL OF CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME • VOLUME 14:3 (pub) 2008 Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) Axis Dysfunction in Patients with Chronic Fatig...

Re: Anyone have Epididymitis Cause Chronic Prostatitis?

Thank you very much for your personal reply. I am going to see Dr. Alexander at the University of MD in a week or so. The reason I am switching Urologists is mainly because my current one insists that the fevers are completely unrelated to Prostatitis which is not possible in my opinion. The timing...

Re: Anyone have Epididymitis Cause Chronic Prostatitis?

3. Has anyone else had extended fevers and chills from chronic prostatitis? I had them for about the first three weeks I felt prostate pain. I was wearing sweatshirts outside in July I was so cold and weak but again my urologist said it is not related to prostatitis which I find hard to believe due...

Re: General Question for Dr. Shoskes or Any Other Drs. on Here

Dr D Just a quick question regarding you last comment. With regards this condition burning out. Do you perhaps think however that we just become "used" to having this condition, and as such we learn to live with it, and after a few years, we tend to notice it less as it becomes part of our lives? I...

Re: New drug combo for IC/PBS

The cure time of 6-40 hours is extraordinarily short for a treatment that requires you to catheterize yourself. Maybe for women this will be manageable, but it'll be tough to persuade men to cath themselves for this. I would be interested to hear about the definition of the term "cure" as a treatme...

Re: General Question for Dr. Shoskes or Any Other Drs. on Here

The websites and support groups pale in comparison to many other conditions that affect peoples' lives in similar ways. So I am wondering what do you see from the majority of the men you treat with chronic prostatitis? Do you see patients eventually have their symptoms "burn out" or diminish to whe...
