Upcoming CPPS/IC research: MAPP grants

Here are some details on the upcoming big research projects on CPPS/IC that the NIH announced funding for this fall, the MAPP grants. (For basics on MAPP, see here .) Most of the primary investigators are from fields other than CPPS/IC, like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and gut pain. I wa...

Re: Urologists and neuromodulation

Neuromodulation is a very general treatment that can take many forms. For people with urinary issues (frequency/incontinence), sacral neuromodulation is usually used. For conditions like pain, though, different locations can be stimulated. For example, some people with extreme neurologic pain receiv...

Re: Facial spasms

If you're referring to small twitches (e.g. in the eyebrows), those are known as fasciculations. They have many potential causes.

Do everything you can to avoid chafing that area. Apply a bandage/medical tape there if needed.

Re: Intravesical Alkalinized Lidocaine helps IC/PBS

I'm not sure if bi-carb soda has been discussed here much but I use it to try and keep my body's ph level in balance. For those really conscious or sensitive to foods but can't pinpoint what it is exactly causing a flare maybe should look into the acid/alkaline balance. Can't say if it helps much o...

Re: Ehhhf - cystoscopy under general anesthesia

So, I was supposed to go in for my cystoscope today, and I got to the hospital, and I was a little worried about the general anesthetic because I have a cold, so I got the anesthesiologist to ask the doctor if I could just have a Local Anesthetic, so he does, and the urologist comes out and word fo...

Re: General PT QuestionHelp!

If you can afford it, the Stanford Clinic is the best. Check the thread in this subforum with PT listings; if there's a good local PT you can try them first, though. But the Stanford PT is known to find TPs that others don't find.

Re: Interstim for rectal spasm/tightness?

Levator Ani Syndrome is my #1 problem and have had it for 10+ years. PT only seemed to make things worse. I've had injections, and all that as well. I was just curious if any of you have tried Interstim for this? Any luck? I need something to break that pain cycle. It is so wound up, that it just c...

Re: frequent urination runing my life

If you've tried the more conservative treatments (physical therapy, Elavil, IC diet, etc), consider Interstim or Botox in the bladder.
