Re: NIDDK Meeting on Defining the Urologic CPPS - June 08

This makes me very excited! My parents (both JHU biochemists) have already got their tickets and are going to act as "informed" family members of a patient. I may even fly back east for this myself. It's important that we're there to witness this coming together. This is also major for insurance iss...

Re: Adrenocortical Hormone Abnormalities in Men with CP/CPPS

Dr. D - I would bet most of us have been walking around (trying not to sit too long :) ) doing a lot of thinking about this possible CAH connection. It's fascinating! Thank you so much for your tireless work! I'm definitely checking with some folks at Johns Hopkins to see if I can get tested for the...

Re: Pain in the tip of penis

This is exactly one of my major complaints - I can't seem to get rid of the hypersensitivity and the tip pain - but I KNOW it is better when I'm not focusing on it...As I keep reminding myself over and over (sometimes it works) this takes A LOT of time to get here, and thus a good amount of time to ...

Re: Anal Fissures

Howdy - I think you'll see that many of us on this board have IBS or bowel symptoms. I've had mine for years - and definitely think it's related to all the tightening and holding in my pelvis over the years. I didn't even know that I was forcing out bowel movements for years - pushing those poor mus...

Re: Why gluten now?

Hey guys - Any additives in Prosta Q that aren't listed? I'm starting an elimination diet today and want to be extra careful! Also, does anyone know if psyllium husk (fiber) is ok if you're excluding gluten, oats, corn, barley, etc.?

Re: Adrenocortical Hormone Abnormalities in Men with CP/CPPS

Ok - this is terribly interesting!! My question is how does a steroid work to fend off an enzyme deficiency? Maybe that was answered in the past few posts but was beyond my level of understanding  -- I'm going to print this topic out and send it to my mother who's a biochemist to explain I...

Re: The exercise question again...

Scooby, How would you say the overall change has been since you started lifting again? In general worse? In general better? The same? I'm noticing some better weeks this last week as I've stopped all exercise, but it may also be that I am taking more time relaxing instead of running to the gym on my...

Re: The exercise question again...

Webslave - In doing some reading on the release of cortisol during exercise - it would seem that weight training would be helpful in decreasing the inflammation of CPPS. Other than problems of tensing the pelvic musculature is it possible that exercise might actually be good for inflammation based s...

Re: Gluten blood testing

I'm curious about people's thoughts on the ALCAT test. I understand the problems with skin-prick and RAST tests - they often overlook food intolerance and really only score for true "allergy" - the ALCAT test seems unique, and has been shown to have good efficacy by Dr. Brostoff and others - anyone ...

length of time...

I'm curious about how long those of you who have mostly been able to beat this thing have taken to get to a "manageable" point. In particular, how long after starting your treatment (SP, PT, Prosta-Q, etc)...and what was the course of your symptoms...did they get better gradually - get worse and the...

Re: gay men with CPPS

My PT (Liz Rummer at pelvicpainrehab.com) says that we should be able to eliminate those trigger points over time. She says with the right kind of retraining we can even build me up again so that I won't fall back into the same hole of pain again. So, I guess the answer is that we want to eliminate ...

Re: Accutane a Cause?

Interesting - I've been wondering if Accutane had something to do with this as well - I was on it for about 9 months in my teens...of course it is just one possible cause in a complex network of things including that highly overachieving attitude to life that in the end did me in :)

Re: gay men with CPPS

Hey y'all - I've started a google group for gay men to support one another through pelvic pain. This is more of a support space than a treatment/research based forum such as this...here's the site:

Gay Men Coping with Pelvic Pain

All the best!

Re: The exercise question again...

As it seems that everyone has a different experience with exercise - it looks a little like a toss up and a personal choice...I'm testing a week or two without to see if it helps speed along healing. Then I think I'll add it back in and see how I feel...if I flare, then no more for a while. I'm also...
