Re: Tanezumab significantly reduces pain in IC
This might be old news to some but Tanezumab is back in the pipeline and being expedited by the FDA. Apparently, the people whose arthritis got worse were ones where pain was completely eliminated and the patients thought they could go back to an active lifestyle. I am pretty sure its being expedite...

Re: New NIH Study for Interstitial Cystitis
Dr. Shoskes, Cyclosporine seems to be a rather strange selection for treatment. I know of a very small study on it by a group in Oklahoma, they all had their symptoms return after use. Surely, a patient couldn't stay on it indefinitely although if you subscribe to the theory that if you can allow yo...

Re: Interplay of inflammatory mediators
Great find! Frustratingly, they ask a lot of good rhetorical questions It seems likely that the COX pathway and pro-inflammatory mediators play, at least, a fundamental role elevating the pain. I think others have tried Celebrex a COX-2 inhibitor with minimal success prolongation of pain is likely t...

Re: Silodosin
This is just another alpha blocker study, right? A newer one.
I think alpha blockers have a role in CPPS in those patients who have start and stop or split stream issues but it doesn't do anything for the pain symptoms.
I wonder if they'll do another study with Silodosin and Cipro combination?

Re: AUA 2011 - Highlights
Thanks for posting this. This AUA is somewhat disappointing and boring, there is nothing that sticks out as a ground breaking medication or more data on etiology of what exactly is going on in most patients diagnosed with CPPS. I researched ESWT awhile back, called several hospitals, and its only re...

Re: Tanezumab significantly reduces pain in IC
I was in this trial and Pfizer took it out of their pipeline because a small subset of patients got worse. Subsequently, 2 other big pharma took it out of their pipeline when the FDA started asking questions. The only company left in this realm is Abbot labs with one in phase I. Stepping away from C...

Re: The DABBEC Phenotyping System
Any idea how many phenotypes exist? I agree with Dimitrakov that the condition changes over time, this makes the number of phenotypes practically endless. You could have patient A with urethral burning in 2006 - phenotype A, then in 2008 have testicle soreness - phenotype B, because the patient has ...

Re: Study: PTNS effective for CPPS
Not many active members here thankfully have had such surgeries, however, in my time spent researching CPPS we are such a small percentage of sufferers and I myself sometimes have become delusional in that the only ones suffering from this are on this site. When all doctors have given up on you and ...

Re: Tanezumab
This shocking, not only from a CPPS point of view but from an osteoarthritis point of view, this drug has helped many people obtain the unthinkable and I have seen it help CPPS/IC patients. Being a cynic I wonder if it has to do with the fact that there were rumors out that it was too expensive to p...

Re: Study: PTNS effective for CPPS
Superuse, You bring up some hot issues, I understand your points. I was merely posting the study results from a PTNS study sort of in response to Kevin (sham treatment question) and webslave. My secondary point was that I was shocked at how many invasive surgeries people have had. When I was at the ...

Re: Study: PTNS effective for CPPS
If your interested in PTNS get the full PDF report on "Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation as Neuromodulative Treatment of Chronic Pelvic Pain" from the Netherlands Journal: European Eurology It does a good job of explaining what they did, size of needle, duration of treament, etc I have...

Smith Urology Institute
I got the below list of "novel" therapies from the Smith Urology Blog , a bit interesting. Interesting the mention of Cannabinoids aka marijuana as a treatment, I had a uro once tell me I should try it. I never have, and reading posts here it apparently makes chronic prostatitis / chronic ...

Re: Tanezumab
I was in this study, while I dont think it helped me, I spoke to others in the trial and some did in fact have a moderate to significant decrease in pain, one woman who was clearly in pain from IC/CPPS when she first started claimed she was pain free. I have my doubts but I can't argue with it. What...

Re: New Clues to Chronic Pelvic Pain
Makes sense, very clearly written. But how are we so sure that the mouse has pelvic pain and how do we know the pelvic pain in the mouse is the same as mine? Same thing with Buffington and his pelvic pain cats. Do they have CPPS or do they have some cat specific urinary condition? The patch idea see...
