Hi there - update

Some of you may remember me from back in the sci.med forum days. Good to see Mark still fighting the good fight and educating the masses. I'm sorry for those of you who are new to this. Anyway, I started perusing this forum and its predecessor in 2000 when my symptoms first started. I was quite acti...

Elavil

I would caution that Elavil can cause contipation as a side effect. Even at a small dose it was problematic for me.

Nothing irritates me more than constipation and/or sitting w/o a donut cushion.

If I avoid the above I barely ever notice my problem.

Mine burned out in about 3 years. For the past 6 years I've been at 80% or so. Life returned to normal, glad to say.

Hope you all get well soon.

Update

No, I never did the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol. It was sort of a new theory about the time mine burned out. I used Prosta-Q for awhile back in the day, but it was during a time when my CPPS was so bad and so inflamed NOTHING was going to help. I did the broccoli broth for quite awhile too. All ...

checking in

I think it's been a year since I last posted. Funny to think just 7 years ago I was on here 24 hours a day. Those days still make me shudder. Anyway, I'm doing ok. Still at 80-90%. Rarely have bad flare ups now. Still use donut cushion religiously. I truly believe it helps the most of anything. I ha...

Update

I vowed long ago to give 6 month updates about my condition...so... Last time I reported it was after a shitty flare-up as a result of being forced to take loads of Benadryl to combat a fairly serious allergic reaction. That flare wasn't quite as bad as I remember but it was very debilitating and pa...

Benzos?

Refresh my memory please as to what those are.

I always attributed my "recovery" to:

1. Time
2. Massages
3. Donut cushion
4. Preventing constipation

You may be right - it may be muscular. I know my first huge flare was after a game of tennis. Who knows? What are benzos?

Massage

It was done by a physician with experience. It wasn't a drainage, mind you. Merely a stern massage. 15 seconds of agony. It gave me relief of that awful burn within an hour.

Massages have always helped me. Don't know why.

Update on my flare.

I thought I owed it to the group to report back. As you recall, I had a pretty bad flare about 2 weeks ago. I'm happy to report that after about 7 days of misery/near-misery I got back to "normal" (which means my CPPS is nearly an unnoticeable annoyance). The "trick": Time One (1) prostate massage (...

Benadryl

Well, like I said - I had no choice at the time, seemingly. My eyes were swollen shut within minutes of my first symptoms (i.e. hives, welts on my face and neck). I was an hour at least from the nearest hospital. My wife made me take them. I knew it could effect my prostate but I was frightened, qui...

Benadryl

Thanks. I didn't notice any problems until a few days after I took the Benadryl. Now I wish I would've never taken it. But at the time everybody was worried I'd die from the allergic reaction. Hmmm. Death or CP flare up? Let me think about that one for a sec...vbg. I feel a little better today. I to...

First decent flare-up in years....ugh.

Long story short - I went on a road trip out to the country and had a severe allergic reaction to pollen. My face and eyes swelled up so bad that my wife and her relatives demanded I take Benadryl - about 100 mgs over the span of 7-8 hours. I went to the ER and they gave me a shot of prednisone (I t...

Hang in there.

I've been to the Hell of which you speak and back. Job, g-friend, money, fun....all gone. Total, utter despair. But I'm happy to say that just 5 years later I'm better than ever: self-employed, married, comfortable and 80% symptom free. Sure, the old "prostate" is an annoying son-of-a-bitch, but I l...

Mark- You're probably right - there are things I could still do and haven't yet tried to make things better. But, to be honest, I'm happy where I am right now. I am OK with life and I don't want to risk making things worse. It's worth it to me by a longshot to just let it be. Like I said, I just liv...

Sure.

The thing that helped me the most is time. Another thing is acceptance - accepting that I have this. Like I said, my "CP" relented....it kinda "burned out". I still have some annoying days (frequency/urgency/burning, swollen feeling down yonder), but by and large I simply don't think about it. The o...
